ok, so school is done. summer school is interesting. I had more fun than should be legal at a party with people I don't know. Jen was there. I know her. So was Linda. Oh, and a shitload of former students. Does the word awkward come to mind?

So, after many weeks away . . .

Last night I attended the Def Leppard/Journey concert and had the best time. I mean, aside from the fact that both bands were highly entertaining, neither sucked. Oh, and the fact that my mom wouldn't let me go to the Hysteria tour concert (school night? whatever!), brought back a flood of young teen memories. I told my friend Jen at one point how much I used to love bassist Rick Savage in ninth grade and she asked which one he was. I said the guy in white and she says "OH! The guy with the old man belly. I figured he was from the original group." Yes, a lovely moment. But I bought my concert t-shirt and I am wearing it with pride, damn it!

In case anyone wondered, spending ten days in Orlando to solve the problems of education for the teacher's union was highly successful. Yup, all done.

Yup, husband and wife working the boxed wine. If I were a lesser person, I'd complain and whine about something and then the subject line would have two meanings. Right honey?

In summer school news, I started with eleven kids on Monday and am down to four. Wow, I am really a mean, scary teacher.

And, in news about lifestyles I could easily get accustomed to . . . I went sailing on the St. Croix yesterday afternoon. In the converse, driving to Deadwood, SD this weekend. If anyone needs any dead, famous, cowboy paraphernalia, now's the time to ask.

Yup, back to counting down to Superman Returns (two weeks if you're keeping track).

Saw Scot's play again last night - he was awesome. My husband is really talented. Ok, I know how that sounds, but he really is. Spacey-esque, someone once said.

Anyway, went with Chris. Who is, if you didn't know hilarious. Hilarious.

After three days of union meetings, it turns out that people who don't know anything about schools are ceating policies for them, politicians who have never talked to teenagers are claiming to understand them, and my job is just going to get harder.

Thank goodness the school year is almost over and I get my summer's off. Oh wait, nevermid, that's right, I teach summer school . . . have to finish my master's thesis . . . have to work on mandatory curriculum revisions . . . need to read many works of classic literature for AP Literature . . . yup, summer's off. I can't wait until that happens.

In the infinite wisdom of the tourism industry, the school year goes too long and starts way too late. The result, I'm done teaching, the kids are done learning, and the humidity and heat collecting in my window-free classroom actually leaves children shriveled. It's a fascinating process to watch happen.

Thank God I have tomorrow off.

Countdown to Superman Returns officially begins now: it's opening on June 27th for last showings!

I find myself surprised at how difficult it is too find people and how few of my students are on this. I guess they are all getting picked up by dirty old men on MySpace.
